Winegrowing in Ecuador – Dos Hemisferios

Winegrowing at the Humboldtstrom – a paradox is making career with the support of Grape Agents

Ecuador: a country with three different topographic regions, from the coast to the rainforest until the highlands. However, hardly anyone is aware that winegrowing is existing on this South American land: with the tropical climate creating up to three grape harvests per year and the world´s highest vineyard areas in the Andes and therefore supported by the Humboldtstrom – the cold ocean current, which is flowing from the Antarctica up the North, parallel to the Andes – is the great success of the vineyard "Dos Hemisferios"; not a secret anymore: we will offer those wonderful wines in Germany – exclusively by the Grape Agents.

This partnership confirms the longtime competence and the market entry on both sides: it was decided in San Miguel Del Morro only in 2004, to flourish the vineyards with the best clones of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Chardonnay – and was working together with Abel Furlan, the well-known enologist from Mendoza in Argentina.

The first high-class result was already visible in 2006, a wine out of Cabernet Sauvignon and a Malbec-mixture, with the adequate name Paradoja, which means "paradoxic", because the high-graded wineproduction of Ecuador rivals a special undertaking. In addition another wine between a Cabernet Sauvignon and a Merlot-mix was established in 2007 – the name Bruma refers to the fog, which is around the vineyard every morning. Followed by Enigma from Chardonnay grapes, which is named after the secret about the establishment of Dos Hemisferios first white wine. Del Morro from Cabernet Sauvignon succeeded, named as a homage to the country and its people, who allowed the production of such unique wines. Finally in 2011, a wine named Travesía, which means "journey", from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes...a journey of unique scents und flavors, which reveals the secret of the production of these wines coming from this country at the equator.

From a vineyard in the region of Playas, at the coast of Ecuador. A region, which is outstanding for its sunny days, mild nights, chalky grounds and an everlasting sea breeze. We defy the theory successfully, that the conditions in the middle of the world are not optimal to produce top wines, which came from the well-known regions with four seasons and specific lines of latitude so far.
